Lewis Ivory & Black Chess Pieces -19 Inch Mahogany Chess Board

The Isle of Lewis chessmen are a group of 78 12th century chess pieces. Traditionally carved in Walrus Ivory and discovered in 1831 on the Isle Of Lewis, Scotland.

They make up of few complete, surviving medieval chess sets, although it is not clear if a set as originally made can be assembled from the pieces they are owned and exhibited by the British Museum in London which currently holds 82 of the original pieces.

It is believed that these chessmen where made in Norway by craftsmen in Trondheim in the 12th Century.

We are proud to present such a remarkable reproduction of the historic Isle Of Lewis Chessmen.
